Red Cross to Conduct Boot Camp Training in Greenville for New Volunteers

New Responder Boot Camp will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at American Red Cross in Greenville

Tony Reid, Regional Disaster and Programs Officer announced Friday that the Red Cross will conduct a New Responder Boot Camp on Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the American Red Cross in Greenville, 940 Grove Road, 29605.

Whether it’s down the street, or across the Western Carolinas, the American Red Cross is there serving those in need. “We need new volunteers so we can expand the breadth and scope of the services we offer to the community through preparedness, response and recovery,” said Tony Reid, Regional Disaster and Programs Officer. “We have restructured our volunteer training program to make it more efficient for us and our volunteers,” said Reid. The training process has now been condensed from several months down to a one day boot camp according to Reid.

Attendees to the boot camp will receive training in Disaster Services: an Overview, Shelter Fundamentals and Disaster Assessment. Upon completion of training attendees will be guided through an online application and background check, as well as receive information about an online orientation. Once these areas have been successfully completed, attendees will become Red Cross volunteers.

Those interested in becoming Red Cross Volunteers can register for the training by sending an e-mail to WCRDVMT@redcross.org, or by contacting Greta Herring at 864-282-8660.
