Powdersville Students "Battle of the Books" Winners

Powdersville Elementary School students win district-wide competition

On Monday, May 20th students representing seven elementary schools in Anderson School District One participated in a district-wide “Battle of the Books” competition at Spearman Elementary School.

Teams were asked a series of questions related to the South Carolina Children’s Book Award Nominees.

Teams from Powdersville Elementary School and Cedar Grove Elementary squared off in the finals of the competition.

The winning team, “The Angry Bookworms,” from Powdersville Elementary won the overall competition.

Their reading teacher, Mrs. Tutterow, said, “These four students all share a love of reading. I know that is why they were so successful in the competition.” Mrs. Fowler, media specialist at Powdersville Elementary, says the “Battle of the Books” event has become very popular among students at her school. “Our students worked hard and practiced daily to get ready for this competition,” Fowler remarked. “It’s great to see many of students get excited about reading and participating in this event.”

Mr. Moore, the master of ceremonies for this event and assistant principal at Powdersville Elementary School, is excited to see students motivated to read and compete. “I am proud of all of our students who competed to represent our school, and very proud of our winning team for doing so well,” Mr. Moore said. The Powdersville Elementary School team did not miss a single question during the competition.
