Annexation Hearing to be Held on Thursday Morning

The first reading for the annexation of two properties owned by Hendrick Honda will be held Thursday morning.

Easley City Council has moved up the date for the rescheduled first reading of the proposed annexation of two properties owned by HRS Properties of the Upstate to Thursday morning.

The annexation of two properties owned by the company that owns Hendrick Honda on Calhoun Memorial Highway came to a halt after the first reading in August due to an oversight in the original property surveys.

The Easley Planning Commission first reviewed the annexation proposal on July 18. Based on the city's maps it appeared that the company's property on Cardinal Drive was contiguous with city limits, but further investigation revealed a small sliver of privately owned property was separating it from the city.

Easley Building Commissioner Tommy Holcombe said the property that was contiguous with city limits was surveyed incorrectly and a small piece of property owned by a private resident came in between the two HRS properties. Hendrick Honda has since purchased the .016 acres of privately-owned property.

The Planning Commission approved the application to annex the Hendrick Honda properties last week and scheduled the first reading for Oct. 10. The first reading will now be held at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

"We went ahead and decided we would have a special called meeting," Mayor Larry Bagwell said. "That way we can get this done a bit quicker."

Bagwell said the rescheduling of the first reading should not cause any issues with Pickens County policies because everything had been previously approved.

The second and final reading for the annexation would be held during the Oct. 10 council meeting.
