Solicitor Wilkins: "It's My Biggest Fear"
Four years before her death at the hands of her husband, Sandra Thomas filed criminal domestic violence charges against him, but dropped those charges before trial.
Solicitor Walt Wilkins III said the Easley woman killed along with her son August 30 and filed charges against her killer four years ago. Sandra Lee Michelle Smith Thomas, 42, and her son Daniel Gabriel Smith, 15, were killed by Thomas' husband William D. Thomas, 61, who then killed himself. Wilkins spoke about the tragedy Thursday evening at a Pickens County Taxpayers Association meeting. William Thomas was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, but charges were dropped. “It was in my office,” he said, of the case. “I reviewed the file today. Come on Walt. You know as well as anyone there are a lot of law enforcement officers out there that will get on the stand and lie their butts off to get a conviction! Not everyone that goes in front of a jury is guilty,no matter how bad you would like them to be. Remember, innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt!!
