The following Pickens County restaurant inspections were conducted from Sept. 17-30.
Information provided by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. Grade A - The food service establishment earned 88-100 points. Its sanitation and food safety practices scored appeared to be in the 'acceptable to very good' range during DHEC's unannounced routine inspection. Grade B - The facility earned from 78-87 points. Its sanitation and food safety practices appeared to be in the 'marginal to acceptable' range during DHEC's unannounced routine inspection. Grade C - The food service earned from 77-70 points. Its sanitation and food safety practices appeared to be in the 'poor to marginal' range during DHEC's unannounced routine inspection.

Karen's on Calhoun is holding an annual fundraiser for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Clemson University Students made a trip to Karen's on Calhoun salon last week to take part in the Pink Hair for Hope fundraiser. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and each year Karen's on Calhoun hosts the fundraiser. Patrons add pink strands of pink to their hair and proceeds are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc.

Robert Kouvolo, President of Maximum Potential Training in Easley, is one of 5,000 initial members of the healthcare co-op who is hoping for approval by the S.C. Department of Insurance. Kouvolo was ready for retirement in 2008 when he sold his interest in a company he helped create. A struggling economy and costly health insurance premiums forced him back into a tight job market. Sylvia, I appreciate the interest in helping. As recently as June, I'd talked with a couple of health insurance reps & received the same answer. They can't cover us.
