New Life for Old Liberty Middle School

Former school site will be put to new use, including being used for Meals on Wheels meal preparation and housing the county's magistrate court system.

The former Liberty Middle School site will be used by the community in a variety of ways – including housing the county's magistrate court system. The county purchased the former middle school property from the school district for $150,000, County Council Chairman Neil Smith said. “We have taken the old gym, the locker rooms and we're planning to transfer that to the City of Liberty, which saves them a tremendous amount of money,” Smith said. On Monday, county council approved giving the former school's cafeteria to Pickens County Meals on Wheels. “Which will allow them to use that old facility to cook and prepare the meals for all the shuts we have in the county,” Smith said. 2013 Wings and Wheels for Meals raises more than $8,000 for Pickens County Meals on Wheels

Pickens County Meals on Wheels held its 4th Annual Wings and Wheels for Meals on Saturday, April 6 from10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The event is held each April at the Pickens County Airport and hosted by the Pickens County Pilot’s Association. A proven community favorite, thousands come out in support of Pickens County Meals on Wheels. This year’s event raised just over $8,163 for the organization. “Anchor attractions include airplane and helicopter rides as well as a classic and custom car show,” says Skeets Cooper, Director of Pickens County Airport, “Every year, we are encouraged by the support of the community. Area Officials Visit Homebound Elderly, Disabled

Local mayors and county councilmen take part in Mayors on Meals, part of larger March for Meals Awareness Campaign for Pickens County Meals on Wheels.

Throughout the month of March, Pickens County Meals on Wheels (PCMOW) held its annual March for Meals Campaign. Created by the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), this campaign is designed to raise awareness about senior hunger by connecting local businesses and public officials with Senior Nutrition Programs like Pickens County Meals on Wheels. Mayors For Meals is one of the key components of the March for Meals campaign. During the week of March 18 through March 22, Meals on Wheels hosted mayors and other elected officials as they delivered meals, thanked volunteers and learned more about the part Meals on Wheels plays in helping the homebound elderly and disabled remain healthy, fed, safe and independent. Officials See Meals on Wheels' Impact

Mayors and other officials see first-hand what Meals on Wheels does for the community during “Mayors for Meals” campaign.

Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver smiles and a friendly word to the clients on the routes, as well as nutritious meals. On Wednesday morn ing, Easley Meals on Wheels drivers saw a friendly face as they picked up their clients' meals. Mayor Larry Bagwell helped Meals on Wheels prepare that day's meals. As he handed off th supplies, he thanked the drivers for what they do. “This is rewarding for me to see what they do to supply food throughout the county,” Bagwell said. “It's rewarding to see a little, small thing happening in this little building spreading throughout the county. The Reserve at Lake Keowee Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce its 2013 charitable giving recipients. Chosen by an annual vote of the members of The Reserve at Lake Keowee, these organizations are the beneficiaries of all fundraising proceeds collected by The Reserve at Lake Keowee Charitable Foundation during 2013. In 2013, the Foundation has added a fifth beneficiary thanks to a substantial new funding source – the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation. The Reserve At Lake Keowee Charitable Foundation Donates $35K to Charities

Funds will benefit Feed a Hungry Child, Helping Hands Children’s Shelter, Pickens County Meals on Wheels, and Prevent Child Abuse Pickens County.

In the giving spirit of the holiday season, The Reserve at Lake Keowee Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce its 2012 charitable contributions of $35,500 – a 36% increase over their 2011 donation amount. These funds, which were divided equally among four benefitting local organizations, were distributed on December 4 in a festive occasion held at The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s Market. This annual outreach amount – largely made possible by proceeds from The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s 2012 Charitable Golf Classic --‐ supports Feed a Hungry Child, Helping Hands Children’s Shelter, Pickens County Meals on Wheels, and Prevent Child Abuse Pickens County. Pickens County Meals on Wheels Celebrates Volunteers

Annual luncheon recognizes Meals on Wheels Volunteers for the contributions they make to the program all year long.

On Tuesday, November 6, nearly 200 volunteers gathered at the Rock Springs Baptist Church Gymnasium for the Pickens County Meals on Wheels Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. The event was made possible through the generous support of Health Services Group; Rock Springs Baptist Church; Moe Collins, owner of Easley, Pickens and Powdersville McDonalds; Lee Jolly, manager of Easley Wal-Mart and Ray Coleman, owner of Easley Waffle House. Back by popular demand was guest entertainer and Meals on Wheels volunteer, Mr. Browning Bryant. His uplifting performance was food for the soul. Pedal Pickens County Raises Over $3,700 for Meals on Wheels

Pickens Middle School Beta Club raises over $600 for cause by sponsoring event's Pedal Push Walk-a-thon.

Pickens County Meals on Wheels held its 2nd Annual Pedal Pickens County- Meals on Wheels Charity Ride on Saturday, October 13th. The event, sponsored by Foothills Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Providence Care, Durham-Green Construction and Ride On Bicycles, raised over $3,700 for the Meals on Wheels program. The event was designed for cyclists who enjoy the rolling hills, challenging climbs, exhilarating descents and the beautiful scenery that Northern Pickens County provides. Riders completed courses of varying distances: a 25 mile, 40 mile, or the 66 mile Metric Century ride which toured portions of beautiful Eastatoee Valley and Caesars Head.
