Drivers Killed In Collision On SC 183 Identified

Crash victims both from Easley

The names of the two drivers killed in a head-on collision on SC 183 this morning have been released. Both victims were from Easley, according to Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley. According to Highway Patrol, around 9:05 a.m. the driver of a 2001 Nissan four-door was travelling south on Highway 183, near Hitt Road, when it crossed the double-yellow line and struck and oncoming car head on. The driver of the Nissan has been identified as Darrell Foster McCoy, Sr., 52.  McCoy died at the scene, troopers said. He was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the second vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet, also died at the scene. She has been identified as Nancy Marie Seal, 65. Seal was wearing a seat belt. The accident is under investigation.

Liberty man dies after falling into ravine

Man dies while fishing with family in Sunset.

A Liberty man died Monday of injuries he sustained after he fell into a ravine. Jeffrey Scott Powell, 34, was fishing with his son, brother and nephew behind Bear Hollow Road in Sunset when the accident occurred, according to Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley. Kelley said Powell lost his footing and fell into a ravine, landing in the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Kelley said. Powell's death is being investigated by the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, Department of Natural Resources and the Pickens County Coroner's Office. An autopsy is slated for today, Kelley said.
