UPDATE: 4:45pm, FRIDAY, April 26 Accused killer Susan Hendricks was sentenced to four life sentences for the murders of four of her family members, including two of her sons. Hendricks entered a plea of guilty but mentally ill for the murders of Marshall Wayne Hendricks, 20, Mark Wayne Hendricks, 52, Matthew Wayne Hendricks, 23 and Linda Ann Burns, 64. A golf ball manufacturer announced plans to invest $13 million in Liberty Wednesday to build a state-of-the-art production facility and expand operations in South Carolina. TaylorMade Golf Company will establish a new manufacturing and research and development facility in Pickens County. “The opportunity to have a permanent home in Pickens County was too good of an opportunity for our company to pass up,” said John Kawaja, executive vice president at TaylorMade Golf. “We are getting a new building in a booming area that will improve our unit production, quality and margin position. Been awhile since you've had your vision checked? The Liberty Lion's Club is sponsoring free eye screenings this Saturday. The screenings will be held from noon – 1:30pm at the Sarlin Branch Library in Liberty. Screenings will be done with a “SPOT” machine, which utilizes an infrared camera that combines auto-refraction and video-retinoscopy. Results will let participants know if they need to see a doctor for further vision evaluation. The screenings are open to both children and adults and will only take a few minutes. Call 843-5805 to reserve a time for your screening. Drop-ins are also welcome.

Liberty, Clemson, Dacusville and Norris holding their Christmas celebrations this week
Easley, Central and Six Mile held their Christmas parades this past weekend, but there's still plenty of opportunities to get into the Christmas spirit this week. Liberty, Clemson, Dacusville and Norris will all hold their Christmas parades this week, with Liberty and Clemson both holding their events Tuesday. Liberty's events kick off with a tree-lighting downtown at 4:30pm, followed by the Christmas parade, which begins at 6pm. Liberty's parade route begins at the old Liberty High School stadium. Floats and entries will travel downtown before returning to the stadium. Clemson's parade day festivities begin at 5pm Tuesday, December 4 with free hot chocolate and live entertainment. County Emergency Management, American Red Cross open cooling station and shelter in Liberty.
Pickens County Emergency Management and the American Red Cross are opening a cooling center and shelter, due to the forecasted extreme heat. The cooling station and shelter opens at 1pm today and is at Eastside Baptist Church in Liberty, located at 920 Anderson Drive. The cooling center will be open from 9am – 7pm through Sunday night. Pickens County Emergency Management Director Chuck Haynes said that although the shelter is located in Liberty, it is set up to serve resident of the whole county. “Protection for our citizens includes protection from extreme weather conditions. Providing these types of services is the core of our mission” he said. Transportation is available for those unable to make it to the cooling center on their own. …

Organizers hope race will raise funds for scholarships for area youth, future events.
Organizers hope a new 5K Run/Walk event in Liberty will raise money to help area youth participate in sports programs. The First Annual Flat Rock Baptist Church 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, June 23. The run begins at 8:30am and will start and end at the Old Liberty High School Football Stadium, according to Jason Pittard, head of the church's Recreation/Fitness committee. The race course will wind its way through Liberty's downtown area, he said. You can register for the race by going to go-greenevents.com and finding the listing for the Flat Rock Baptist Church 5K Run/Walk, Pittard said.
