Easley Touchdown Club Planning Golf Tournament

Tournament to benefit Easley High School, Gettys Middle School, Brice Middle School and Easley Recreation Football programs.

The Green Wave is preparing for fall and a group of fans are planning events to support them and other Easley football programs. The Easley Touchdown Club will hold its 7th Annual Golf Tournament Wednesday, July 17 at Smithfields Country Club. The tournament has a 9am shotgun start. The cost to enter is $400 for a four-man team or $100 for individuals. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100. Easley's C.J. Fuller Commits to Clemson

The rising senior gives verbal commitment to the Tigers.

Easley Green Wave star running back, C.J. Fuller, has given a verbal commitment to play for the Clemson Tigers. The rising senior picked the Tigers, his favorite all along, over N.C State and the University of North Carolina, among others. Fuller (5'10" 206lbs) is a 3-star running back prospect who also could possibly get playing time at or be converted to a defensive cornerback, according to one sports website. As a junior, Fuller rushed 206 times for 2,088 yards, a 10.1 yards per carry average, and 19 touchdowns. He caught five passes for 101 yards and three touchdowns and also returned six kickoffs for 123 yards. As a sophomore, Fuller rushed 117 times for 712 yards, a 6.1 yards per carry average, with seven touchdowns.

Green Wave Faces Pickens August 23

Now that the new era of Easley High football has begun, the Green Wave are looking ahead to the 2013 season. Their first home game will be against rival Pickens on August 23. The Green Wave will then travel to Daniel on August 30 before facing Seneca at home on September 6. They’ll then travel to Wren to face the Hurricanes on September 13. September 20 is an open date for the Green Wave before they travel to Laurens on September 27. They’ll remain on the road on October 4, when they face Hanna. Homecoming for the Green Wave is October 11, where they’ll take on Westside. Then they’ll travel to Woodmont on October 18 before returning home to face Greenwood on October 25. Green Wave Shines During Spring Game

New era of Easley High School Football officially begins with Green and White Game

The next era of Green Wave football kicked off Saturday night with the annual Green and White game. Easley High School Athletic Director Chris Carter told the crowd the game marked the beginning of the next chapter for EHS football. “We would like to extend a warm Easley High School welcome as we begin the Grayson Howell era of Easley High School football,” Carter said. The Green scored first with a field goal and kept the White scoreless into halftime. The final score was Green 27, White 7. During each year’s Green and White Game, an award is given to a volunteer in memory of the late Steve Westmoreland. Green and White Game Is Tomorrow

Green Wave take the field at 6pm for annual spring game.

Giving the fans a taste of what's to come in the fall, the Green Wave will take the field tomorrow evening. The 2013 Green and White Game begins at 6pm at Easley High School. This game marks the beginning of the Grayson Howell era for the Green Wave. Howell was named the new head coach of the Green Wave in January. He replaces Chad Smith, who took a coaching position at Clover High School. He was previously an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Sumter High School. Howell began his coaching career as an assistant at Daniel High School under Allen Sitterle in 1994. He coached at Strom Thurmond High School from 1995-2000, where the team was a state finalist in 1995 and upper state finalist in 1996. Howell has coached at Sumter since…

Easley Student Wins Congressional Art Competition

Easley High School junior Hannah Laney wins this year's competition.

Today, Congressman Jeff Duncan of South Carolina’s Third District announced the winner of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. Hannah Laney, a Junior at Easley High School, was chosen as this year’s winner. Hannah painted an oil pastel entitled ‘Bright Idea’ that is pictured below.  Congressman Duncan released the following statement:  “I’d like to thank all of those who participated in the contest this year, and I’d like to congratulate the winner, Miss Hannah Laney.  I look forward to seeing her in Washington where she will have the opportunity to join other winners from across the country at the reception honoring their outstanding artwork.”

Area March for Babies Raises $115,000

Corporate sponsors, teams and individual fundraisers who are helping the March of Dimes help babies recognized at opening ceremony

Rainy weather Saturday didn’t deter March of Dimes supporters from turning out for the Pickens County March for Babies. “You’re here because you care about our babies and our families,” said WSPA’s Gordon Dill, who served as emcee along with Tracey Early. “A great cause on a gloomy day, which says a lot about all of you who are willing to come here when the weather’s not perfect. It shows you care about what you’re doing.” Dill gave a preview of a later part of the opening ceremony’s script.  “Tracy has a sentence that has 15 exclamation points in it,” Dill said. Emilie White's Work Joins Superintendent's Art Gallery

Easley High School junior's artwork will be permanently display in School District of Pickens County Board Room.

The artwork of Easley High School junior, Emilie White, has been chosen as the 2013 showpiece for the Superintendent’s Art Gallery. Her painting, titled “City of Rest,” will be on permanent display in the SDPC Board Room. “Emilie is a well-rounded student who has found success through her determination and her consistent work ethic,” said Dr. Rusty Jewell, art teacher at Easley High School.” “Emilie is a joy to teach in that she is willing to absorb what the teacher has to give. She understands high school is an opportunity, not a ‘have to,’” Jewell said. Currently, Emilie is a student in Dr. Jewell’s Art 2 Problem Solving Class. Inaugural Run For 51 A Success

Run/Walk held in memory of Easley High School student Daniel Gabriel Smith raises more than $7,000 for Safe Harbor.

The first "Run for 51" event was a smashing success and planners say it will become an annual event. The event, held in memory of Easley High School student Daniel Smith, raised more than $7,000 for Safe Harbor, which provides safe shelter, counseling and advocacy for victims of domestic violence in the Upstate.  The project was a joint effort between the National Junior Honor Society of Gettys Middle School and the National Honor Society of Easley High School. Gettys Middle School teacher Cindy Whittemore said more than 400 people registered to take part in the Run for 51. Whittemore's Leadership class helped plan the event. Runners and walkers pledged to run or walk around Easley High School for 51 minutes in honor of Smith, who was …

Walk/Bike-a-thon Postponed Until Thursday

Event postponed due to heavy rains predicted tonight.

With the strong thunderstorms planned for today, the Foundation has re-scheduled the 2nd Annual Walk/Bike-a-thon to Thursday, April 25 from 6-8 pm at the new Easley High School. According to the Baptist Easley Hospital Foundation, all of the event's partners have agreed to come on on Thursday, including the fire truck, smoke house, police car, drug dog, GHS helicopter, ambulance and Humvee. The event will feature displays from area organizations, including the YMCA of Easley, Safe Kids, Sam’s Club, Paper Party Place, Combined Utilities (food station), Roger C. Peace Hospital (water station) and inflatables/snow cones/cotton candy provided by Piedmont Baptist Association. Parents and children should arrive at Easley High School on Thursday…
