Sources: Greenville GOP Candidates Were Ineligible

Ballot controversy has already produced mayhem in other parts of Palmetto State.

Multiple Greenville County candidates illegally took part in June's Republican primary, according to sources with knowledge of election procedures and the county GOP. Dorchester and Pickens counties have already been plagued with controversies of their own, but sources have said the impact could be much broader. At least one of the candidates in Greenville County who should have been ineligible was Mike Barnes, who won the race for Greenville County Council District 18, said one source who was knowledgeable about election procedures. Barnes told Patch on Friday that he is not aware of any issues with his filing. "No one has told me that there was a problem," Barnes said. Dorchester Democrats Obtain Preliminary Injunction in Ballot Lawsuit

Parties agree to keep non-incumbent Republicans off the ballot during discovery, according to lawyer.

Update July 10: The preliminary injunction was not signed by a judge and Dorchester County Democratic Lawyer James Smith withdrew his motion for the injunction. Instead, the temporary restraining order issued June 29 was allowed to expire, according to the judge's administrative assistant. Click here for more info. Dorchester Co. Democrats File Suit Against Local, State GOP

Democrats cite improper filing and ask for decertification of all non-incumbent Republican candidates in Dorchester County.

SUMMERVILLE — The Dorchester County Democratic Party filed a lawsuit Friday against the county Republican Party, chairwoman Carroll Duncan and a host of local and state GOP and elections officers. A judge has issued a temporary restraining order. Court dates are expected in the second week in July.  The suit claims Dorchester County Republican Party illegally certified all of its non-incumbent candidates, and asks the First Judicial Circuit to decertify the candidates, including GOP nominees for S.C. I don't understand all this... however, it seems to me there are LAWS for running for office in this state. Either the candidates complied with the law or NOT. If not, why were they allowed to be on the ballot?? It's just like JAMES ISLAND trying to become a town.....and several times they WORDED the REFERENDA incorrectly.
