Haley's Memoir Draws Harsh GOP Criticism

Gov. Nikki Haley’s new memoir, “Can’t Is Not An Option,” is untruthful according to at least six politicians interviewed last week.

Gov. Nikki Haley is making headlines, again, but this time it's not about an ethics investigation. This week, the South Carolina's first female governor is taking criticism for her new memoir, "Can't Is Not An Option." According to The State newspaper, at least a half-dozen of Haley's own party deny the allegations made in the book released on April 3, including the speaker of the S.C. House, a former lieutenant governor and former representative to the U.S. Congress. Democrats, including Haley’s 2010 opponent in the governor’s race, describe the book as “fiction," according to the article. Haley spokesperson Rob Godfrey said Haley stands by her accounts in the memoir, the paper reports. As the book was launched, Haley launched a …

Protesters Greet Haley at Book Signing

About a dozen protesters lined up on King Street while Gov. Nikki Haley signed copies of her book, "Can't Is Not an Option," at Blue Bicycle Books

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley brought her national book tour back to the Palmetto State Monday. About a dozen protesters lined up outside Blue Bicycle Books on King Street ahead of Haley's 6 p.m. book signing event. Meanwhile, about 40 people bought copies of her memoir, "Can't Is Not an Option," and lined up to have her sign it. "I think someone needs to tell her she needs to be accountable," protester Chris Covert said. "She hasn't done anything in the Governor's Office in weeks while she's been on her book tour." Characterizing the protest as a bipartisan effort, Covert said the group organized on Facebook, via email and through word-of-mouth. "She doesn't have a high-approval rating, that's why we're here," Covert added. "I think …

Haley's Book Tour Complete, Critics Still Remain

The governor will be in the Upstate on Tuesday for an announcement from Michelin.

If Nikki Haley was hoping to make waves with her new book, she appears to have succeeded. Although the contents of her memoir, Can’t Is Not An Option, may not have ruffled many feathers, the tour that she went on to promote it appears to have done the trick. While appearing on “The View” Haley said that women “don’t care” about contraception, a comment which set off a storm of criticism. Haley has a book-signing tonight in Charleston before heading to the Upstate tomorrow for what has been called a “major economic announcement” by Michelin at 10 a.m. Criticism of the book tour appeared to be dying down, but with the release of last week’s schedule from her office, it may get a second wind. The schedule shows 32 separate interviews with the…

Haley's Book Release Pushed Back to April

The first female governor of South Carolina discusses the hardships she faced entering politics.

Gov. Nikki Haley's memoir won't be released until April 3, according to Sentinel/Penguin, the publishing company printing the book.  The book, entitled "Can't Is Not an Option," was scheduled to be released in January. The publishing company announced on Tuesday that it pushed back the date because it doesn't want to compete with the state's Jan. 21 primary, according to an Associated Press story. In the memoir, Haley discusses the hardships her family faced as the first Indian family in the small town of Bamberg, S.C., and the hardships she faced during her entrance into politics.  Haley denied allegations of affairs with two men and was elected in 2010 with 51 percent of the vote, becoming the state's first female governor. In March, …
