A wave of pink is flooding stores everywhere, as retailers participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the savvy shopper, it's an opportunity to donate to a good cause while snagging unique, pink-hued items. As part of its charitable giving program, jcp cares, jcpenney is supporting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, an organization committed to funding scientific research to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime. This October, in honor of breast cancer awareness month, jcpenney customers can round up their store purchases to the nearest whole dollar and donate the difference to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. jcp salons will also be offering free styling and haircuts to breast cancer survivors …

One in 8 American women and 1 in 1,000 American men will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives. It’s estimated that more than 2 million people are diagnosed with breast cancer and fight for their lives each year. Breast cancer is difficult to face alone—for both patients and their loved ones. To help in the battle, there are a number of local resources and support groups. There are a number of support groups in the Easley and Pickens County areas, according to the Baptist Easley website. Breast Cancer Support Group Women in their 20s-40s meet the first Thursday of the month at 12:00pm. Women age 50 and above meet the third Thursday of the month at 12:00pm. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and whether you love to shop, attend events, walk or run, there are tons of different ways to support the cause. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and many communities are painting the town pink.
The White House got a pink glow in Washington, DC. People painted their pumpkins pink in Calvert, MD, and women donated art made of bras in Orange City, FL. In Pennsylvania, first lady Susan Corbett turned the fountain pink in Harrisburg. And they did it all last year in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This October promises to bring even more colorful and thoughtful events and opportunities. “Clearly, every person who brings attention to the cause is fantastic,” said Terry Music, chief mission delivery officer for the American Cancer Society.
