Gamecocks' Justice Cunningham NFL Draft's "Mr. Irrelevant"

The USC Gamecocks' tight end receives the dubious honor of being the very last player chosen in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Whew! That was close.... Amid the fanfare of DeAndre "Nuk" Hopkins being taken in the NFL Draft's first round, USC star running back Marcus Lattimore's being taken by the San Francisco 49er's, not to mention other draftees from state schools, Gamecock's tight end Justice Cunningham earned his own distinguished place in draft history on Saturday. Cunningham earned the dubious honor of being the very last player chosen in the draft — earning the status of "Mr. Irrelevant." Cunningham was the final pick in the final round, being taken 254th by the Indianapolis Colts.  Mr. Irrelevant's don't have a great track record for prolonged or outstanding NFL careers, or any careers at all for that matter.  However, Cunningham should take solace in …

Update: USC's Marcus Lattimore now a Forty-Niner

Former Byrnes High, USC running back taken in the 4th round of the NFL Draft.

This story has been updated with press conference quotes from Lattimore and 49ers' coach Jim Harbaugh. Marcus Lattimore is now a San Francisco 49er. The former star USC running back was taken as the 131st overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon. Lattimore is the first player out of Byrnes High School to have ever been drafted by an NFL team. Once a predicted first-rounder, many were wondering whether Lattimore might get drafted at all after a devastating knee injury this past season against Tennessee, his second in the past two years. By all accounts, Lattimore has made an incredible recovery, saying that he would be ready to play by the start of the upcoming NFL season. However, San Francisco most likely …

Clemson's Hopkins Picked By Houston Texans

DeAndre Hopkins was No. 27 in the NFL draft Thursday night.

Clemson's DeAndre "Nuk" Hopkins was selected as the the No. 27 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Hopkins went to the Houston Texans, making him the 23rd first-round selection in Clemson history and by far the youngest draft pick from the school at the age of 20. The Clemson wide receiver announced in January that he would enter the draft. A record-setting Tiger, Hopkins said he had enjoyed his time at Clemson but was ready for the next level. Hopkins is a graduate of Daniel High School. The NFL draft continues today, with several Tigers and USC Gamecocks hoping to hear their name called. Hopkins is the second in-state product to be drafted first by the Texans since the team was formed in 2002. The Texans' staff and team owner Robert C. "…

NFL Draft: What Happens to Marcus Lattimore?

Upstate native Marcus Lattimore's future in the NFL is uncertain, as draft begins Thursday.

The NFL draft starts tonight and probably the biggest question on the minds of people in the Upstate is, where is Marcus Lattimore going to play? The USC star and Byrnes standout has garnered a huge following, not just among Gamecock nation, but from people who just want to see Lattimore do well. At a recent event in Greer, people waited hours hoping to meet the former Gamecocks running back who may be one of the hardest working athletes out there. Lattimore, who tore the anterior cruciate, lateral collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee Oct. 27 in a game against Tennessee, has cut his recovery time post surgery in half, when many thought he would never play again. But it's that same injury that has left Lattimore's …
