Time to Crow? Gamecocks Football Ranked 3rd by The Sporting News

Meantime, USC also is ranked 5th by Athlon Sports, just ahead of Clemson, as SC college football rolls into a potentially monstrous 2013 season.

The USC Gamecocks, coming off back-to-back 11-2 seasons and boasting arguably the nation's best football player in defensive end and physical freakshow Jadeveon Clowney, are getting some major preseason love by pigskin prognosticators. Just one day after their archrival Clemson Tigers made a splash by being ranked sixth in a preseason poll by Athlon Sports, the Gamecocks on Thursday bested the Tigers — times two. Athlon on Thursday picked the Gamecocks fifth in its preseason poll, just a notch ahead of the Tigers, who are expecting at least an ACC championship year on the arm of star QB Tajh Boyd.  But not to be outdone, The Sporting News ranked the Gamecocks third in its preseason poll, behind only Alabama and Stanford, giving the …

Last year alone, thousands flocked to watch high quality baseball played by the most talented young players in the world, which in turn brought some major economic impact to the Upstate of SC. “All of us at Big League in Easley work hard every year to provide a place for these young players to develop and grow in their character and athletic skills,” said Jon Humphrey, tournament director. “To us, the economic impact study is just an added bonus of why the tournament is a great fit for everyone involved.” The basis of the BLBWS is to develop teenage baseball players by allowing them to compete in a …
