House recently passed Northern Route Approval Act
South Carolina Congressman Jeff Duncan issued the following statement following the passage of H.R. 3, the Northern Route Approval Act, which approves the permitting for the Keystone XL Pipeline: “Republicans and Democrats both realize that energy production creates jobs. That’s why it’s shocking that President Obama has taken a position too extreme for many members of his own party and stonewalled the approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline. Republicans, Democrats, union workers, and business leaders all agree that the Keystone XL Pipeline will create American jobs. Since the President has stalled and delayed for over 1,700 days, Congress is taking action to put Americans back to work building a more energy independent future for our nation…
Roan Garcia-Quintana says criticisms aimed at him are "desperate."
UPDATED 9:20 P.M. Tim Pearson sent Patch the following statement: "Ms. Sosanie, Vince Sheheen, and the Democrat Party weren't concerned about how this country viewed South Carolina when their leader made racial and then misogynist attacks on the governor, nor when he compared her to Hitler's girlfriend. They weren't concerned when their colleague, Phil Bailey, racially slurred her. And they were completely silent when a leading Democrat legislator referred to Nikki Haley, an Indian-American, as someone who wasn't a minority but just 'a conservative with a tan.' Their faux outrage is just that - faux, political, and as uninteresting to South Carolinians as where they want to take our state." -------------------- The controversial volunteer …

Clemson's Home and Garden Information Center has tips to help keep your cookout safe.
Lots of people will be hauling out the grill during the three-day weekend. It's important to ensure you come home from cookouts this weekend with lots of memories, full bellies and maybe a little sunburn – not foodborne illnesses. Clemson University's Home and Garden Information Center has lots of helpful information to make sure your cookout goes off without a hitch – and without people getting sick. If you're marinating your meat before slapping it on the grill, make sure you do so safely. Foods should be marinated in the refrigerator, not on the counter. If you plan to use some of the marinade as a baste or as a sauce on the finished food, reserve a portion of the marinade. Don't put raw meat or poultry in the reserved marinade. If you …

Beach music legends' April concert got rained out, but they may be returning in August.
Music fans may have a second chance to see beach music legends The Tams this year. The Tams had been scheduled to headline the first night of the Azalea Festival in Pickens last month, but the concert was canceled due to forecasted heavy rains. But the Azalea Festival committee is exploring having The Tams return for a concert later this summer, one that might be held in Pickens' new amphitheater, City Administrator Katherine Brackett said. The concert would be held at the end of August. Pickens City Council members recently discussed the first slate of events to be held at the amphitheater. City officials had explored hosting Movie Nights at the amphitheater, but for now, the cost of putting them on makes it unlikely to happen this …

"Governor Haley appointing and standing by Mr. Garcia-Quintana as a co-chair of her campaign sends a signal to businesses and people in this state and around the country that SC is ok with his kind of hurtful, divisive, racist thinking." This deserved repeating. Nikki Haley is the worst governor in the nation yet without a doubt the fools here will re-elect her.   more ›
