And, not all speech is protected. This forum is not a freedom of speech protected forum. It's…Read More actually quite sad that this was a Valedictorian - are the rest of the students and parents that ignorant of Constitutional Law?

Importantly, freedom of (and, by necessity, from) religion is also protected - but the imposition…Read More of religious beliefs on others is not.

I agree with all the above. The silent majority need to be as upright as this young man. the…Read More symbol for he?? was 7734 (upside down) back in the 1960's when folks talked to each other face to face over a cola. now they sit on the couch and test each other. This is a surprise to me. I believe Easley could support two middle schools. However 16 million…Read More dollars is an awful large amount to renovate Gettys. Very glad that the old Easley High, now Brice is coming along smoothly. I was vocal to keep that fine old structure. One of the best moves the board of education has done lately.

Easley needs two middle schools. Are you going to wait until the new school is surrounded by mobile…Read More classrooms to finally follow through on this expansion? What's the education lottery for if not to help communities keep their schools at manageable population levels. And what happened to the thought that with two middle schools, more students would be able to get involved with sports and student council etc......

Three issues:
One: Act 388 is allowing the state legislature to stranglehold communities &…Read More hold commercial growth rates hostage to their control of SC Ed through mandates, legislstive dictates and spasmodic budgeting priorities.
Two: school size doesn't directly correlate to school or child academic performance, either positive or negative
Three: Mr. Dykes, please step back from your emotional and nostalgic connection to the old EHS building (youth fades, but memories shine ever brighter) and look at the value per dollar a less expensive, more predictable project would have provided the community.
The board clearly reactively voted to dump building a new bldg at Brice after a cursory and premature evaluation that over-looked cost risks. Remodeling an older structure has higher risks than a new-build.
If our board had made a more reasonable risk-focused decision, based less on the perception of public pressure, we would have had less risks of cost over-runs and a much better potential for Easley to recognize the flexibility and growth potential of two schools.
We will have a nice "new" school. We will not be much better off than a new roof and some cosmetics would have gained Gettys at a much lower cost. This reflects very poorly on the leadership quality of our board and long term return potential of our bldg program investments.
