Get in the Game for Meals on Wheels

Sports Announcer Marv Albert urges everyone to support the upcoming Sam Wyche Food Fight Bowl for Pickens County Meals on Wheels

Editor's note: As the August 23 Sam Wyche Food Fight Bowl for Pickens County Meals on Wheels draws near, we've been running guest editorials from sports figures outlining why we all should support this fundraiser. This week's is from Marv Albert!

The Sixth Annual Sam Wyche Food Fight Bowl between Easley and Pickens High Schools is just a month away! Can you believe this game has gotten to be such a special event in just six years?

Working for NBC and CBS Sports, as well as the Madison Square Garden Network, has given me a chance to call the play-by-play for NBA Finals, NHL Championships, NFL Super Bowls, World Heavy Weight, Middle Weight, Light Weight Championship Boxing. I’ve called events in the Olympics,
World Games, and Pan Am Games.

The competition between two long time rivals like Pickens and Easley means just as much to those teams and student bodies. I hope this year is the most competitive yet, and my wish is that every individual and business supports their school choice and does their part to make the Meals on Wheels donations bigger than ever. Please give what you can when the
students from Easley or Pickens High Schools ask you to carry
the ball on this play! Every penny goes to support Pickens County Meals on Wheels.

What is hard for me to believe is that Pickens High has raised more money for Pickens County Meals on Wheels in four of the first five games. 2011 resulted in the most money raised and ended in a draw with less than $100.00 separating the two schools. Come on, Easley, you are several times the size of Pickens. This is the BIG GAME--the Green Wave should blow
the Blue Flame out every year! Come on!

Now, the game’s outcome is a little different. Now way to predict a winner each year. Rivalries will do that, you know!

All of Pickens County is counting on you! Please get in the game by going to www.pcmow.com or by mail at P.O. Box 184, Easley, S.C. 29641.
