WMS Beta Club Wins at State Convention

Wren Middle School Junior Beta Club takes home awards in Group Talent, Quiz Bowl and other categories

The Wren Middle School Junior Beta Club attended the State Beta Convention on January 24 and 25 at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center. One hundred and thirty students, teachers and chaperones attended the competing convention, and the students were able to showcase their skills in twenty academic, art and talent competitions.

Wren Middle eighth grader, Jackson Merritt, was the South Carolina Beta Club Vice President for the 2012-2013 school year, and he presided over the campaign for the election of new officers.

Seventh grader, Sarah Beth Barker, spoke about being a Super Beta in front of an audience of 3,000 students, sponsors and chaperones as a part of her campaign for South Carolina Beta Club Vice President.

Wren Middle School qualified to compete in the National Beta Club Convention in four competition areas.

The Group Talent team placed first place in the state, and the Quiz Bowl team placed second place.

Eighth grader, Victoria DeShields, placed third for her charcoal sketch, and seventh grader, Jackson Sanders, placed third in the Social Studies competition.

The National Beta Club Convention will be held in Mobile, Alabama in June. This was Wren Middle School’s tenth year of competition in the Beta Club Convention, and each year students prepare to compete in more areas of competition.

This is an annual event that students, parents and sponsors look forward to each year. Many hours of preparation, dedication and hard work by students and awesome sponsors make this event possible.
