SDPC Teacher Forum Awards Scholarships

County educator help 10 teacher cadets move closer to achieving their educational goals.

Pickens County educators have helped 10 teacher cadets move closer to their dreams of joining the education profession. Using employees’ contributions, the SDPC Teacher Forum awarded $7,600 in scholarships to the students.
Laura Emily Dekle (Daniel), Krista Ellis Massingill (Easley), Matthew Scott Uselman (Liberty), and Abby Raye Thompson (Pickens) each received $1000 scholarships.

$600 scholarships were awarded to Easley students Melanie Christine White, Anna Caroline Anderson, Lindsey Elizabeth McAlister and to Pickens students Camille Dacie Beavers, Christy Michelle Kay, and Rebecca Kimberly Hiott.
The SDPC Teacher Forum, made up of each school’s teacher of the year, established the scholarship fund for Pickens County teacher cadets several years ago.

Scholarship criteria and applications are disseminated through each high school’s teacher cadet program for aspiring teachers.

Applications are then scored by a team of forum members.
Annual scholarship funds are raised through two district wide fundraisers, one each fall and one each spring. School district employees donate $5 to the scholarship fund and in turn wear jeans to show their support of the future educators.
