Palmetto Middle Student Designs Anderson District One's Christmas Card

8th grader Rebecca Jennings awarded first place in district's Christmas card contest.

Rebecca Jennings, an eighth grade student at Palmetto Middle School was awarded first place with her art submission for the district Christmas card contest. Her work was selected from among entries from the districts eighth grade students.

Rebecca submitted the winning artwork and was presented with a gift certificate and a framed copy of her original drawing by Superintendent Wayne Fowler and Jane Harrison, district coordinator for the program. Her artwork is printed on the district Christmas card that is distributed to all employees of District One.

Rebecca is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Jennings.

Thomas Addison, art teacher at Palmetto Middle School stated, “Rebecca Jennings is an art teacher's dream student! For over two years I have known her to be the kind of student who would quietly, but enthusiastically jump onto every assignment, and working independently with nothing but an occasional suggestion from me, create the most original and unique artwork imaginable. She certainly has a promising future!”

Artwork from Katherine Eaves, a student at Powdersville Middle School, was selected as the second place winner. Third place winner was Shannon Dunn of Wren Middle School. They were also presented with a gift certificate.

Dr. Wayne Fowler, Anderson One Superintendent said, “It is a pleasure to visit in the classrooms and recognize such talent. Congratulations to all entries and winners.”

Jane Harrison, Public Information Director, said, “This is an annual event for the district and each year provides a different school level the opportunity to compete for the artwork design of the district Christmas card. It has become a popular competition that rotates from elementary, middle and high. You can view all of the card submissions on our district webpage at www.anderson1.k12.sc.us.”
