Cindy Boyd Anderson One's Top Teacher

Anderson District One is proud to announce that Cindy Boyd, Wren High School math teacher, was selected to represent the district as the Teacher of the Year for the 2012 - 2013 school year. As the district’s Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Boyd will represent Anderson District One in the competition for South Carolina Teacher of the Year, will serve on a state-wide advisory panel to the State Department of Education, and will receive $1,000 in recognition of her outstanding achievements.

Jane Harrison, District One administrator, said “Ms. Boyd was very excited when the announcement was made during the Back to School Kick Off for all employees on August 17, 2012. She spoke to all teachers by motivating, inspiring and challenging them to help every child be successful. Two finalists were also named: Emily Curry, third grade teacher at Cedar Grove Elementary and Jennifer Chesney, media specialist at Powdersville High School. Each school level Teacher of the Year was recognized followed by a luncheon.”

New teacher of the year, Ms. Boyd, said, “Wow, what a way to start a wonderful new school year! I am filled with enthusiasm and appreciation for this honor. I can't stop smiling! I love being a teacher!”

She continued, “Being part of educating the young people in our community is a great responsibility. It gives me a sense of purpose and motivates me to constantly improve and strive to reach my own potential to be an inspiring influence on my students.”

Dr. Wayne Fowler, Superintendent, said, “I have known Ms. Boyd for a number of years and admire the work she does with our students. It is evident that she cares about her students. She is very creative in the classroom and has a unique ability to motivate students to be successful. She will represent Anderson One in an exemplary manner at the state level.”

Nichole Boseman, Principal of Wren High, said “Ms. Boyd is an outstanding teacher and does a wonderful job with engaging the learners. She is involved in the many aspects of the school community.”

In her application, Ms. Boyd shared, “Never settle for less than your best. We have the huge responsibility to educate the youth of our nation. We have the power to positively influence the next generation of workers and parents. We don’t even know what opportunities might be waiting for our children in another 10 years. We must prepare them to be great communicators and organizers of information. We must emphasize ethical standards and caring for our fellow citizens. These are the medical professionals that will care for us as we grow old. These are the farmers and manufacturers that produce and package our food and consumer products. They will borrow and invest and spend money. They will make decisions that will affect the lives of our children and grandchildren. We must care and give our best to expect students to care and give their best .”

Mrs. Boyd is beginning her fifth year teaching mathematics in Anderson District One. She earned her Master’s degree in Secondary Mathematics from Clemson University, her Secondary Education Teaching Certification in Mathematics and Elementary Education and her Bachelor of Science in Finance also at Clemson University. She is a member of the Palmetto State Teachers Association, National Council of Teachers of Math and South Carolina Council of Teachers of Math.
