A Change in the Weather

Pickens Elementary School fourth graders have been learning about weather conditions and weather instruments.

This week’s recent change in weather was a convenient culminating factor for a fourth grade Science unit at Pickens Elementary School. Students in Mrs. Samantha Head’s fourth grade class have been learning about weather conditions and weather instruments.

Prior to conducting an experiment, the students previewed the forecast for the week to determine which day was predicted to have the strongest winds. The students then made anemometers and conducted three different trials to calculate the wind speed outside on that day.

Not only did the students have a ton of fun, but they had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on, interactive activity that they won’t soon forget!
