Sept. 17-23 is Constitution Week in Easley

Daughters of the American Revolutions urged Congress to devote Sept. 17-23 annually for the observance of Constitution Week.

With a flourish of his pen Mayor Larry Bagwell declared September 17 to 23 to be Constitution week as he signed the Proclamation while the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) looked on. Members of the Fort Prince George Chapter met with Mayor Bagwell at the Starving Artist Café on Main Street in Easley to mark this historic signing.

In 1955, the Daughters petitioned Congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into law on August 2, 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Vicki Ciplickas, owner of the Starving Artist, noted that her café had been used for family parties, showers, and even weddings. “The Mayor has attended meetings in the gallery room, but this is the first time he signed a Proclamation,” Ciplickas said.
