Registration Up, Turnout Down in Pickens County 2012 Election
There were 3,884 additional registered voters in this election, but only 71.2 percent of all registered voters participated — down from 74.2 percent in 2008.
In Pickens County, 45,691 ballots were cast in the 2012 general election, more than 71.2 percent of registered users participated in this year's presidential election.
The turnout was greatly helped by more than 5,000 absentee ballots filed prior to the election.
In total votes, 991 additional people voted in 2012 than in 2008.

But in terms of voter turnout, 2012 was down from more than 74.2 percent in 2008, when there were 3,884 fewer registered voters, to 71.2 percent.
The top three precincts for voter turnout were Stone Church, Sheffield and Lawrence Chapel.
