On September 10, 2013 at approximately 6:58pm two black males entered the 93 Quick Stop on Liberty Drive in Easley, and robbed the lone female employee at gunpoint. One of the black male suspects did fire one round from a handgun towards the clerk, but the bullet did not hit the clerk. Witnesses (outside behind) the store said that the two black males exited the store and ran around back and got into a grey/silver in color Ford Taurus driven by a white female. The suspects got away with an unknown amount of cash and merchandise at this time.

A short time later, officers from the Easley Police Department and the Pickens County Sheriff’s office found a vehicle with three people inside matching the description of both the car and the suspects on Adger Road. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle fled from officers. While the officers were attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver tried to make an abrupt turn off of SC Hwy 178 onto Ruhamah road, striking a power pole and disabling the vehicle.

Officers were able to take all three suspects into custody. All three suspects were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital by EMS.

The two men were receiving treatment at Greenville Memorial Hospital when they left the hospital Wednesday night, unbeknownst to hospital staff, Tollison said.

The two men were found missing by the GHS Police Department. A search of the property was unsuccessful.

“The Easley Police Department’s first priority was to give medical assistance to both suspects, as they appeared by medical staff to be injured from the wreck, following the pursuit,” Tollison said. “Steps were in place to take custody of both suspects upon release from the hospital. These steps have been the common practice for law enforcement in similar situations.

“Certainly these events have triggered a review of procedures that were in place and adjustments will be made accordingly for future situations such as these by the Easley Police Department,” he continued.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Rosa Lupita Martinez, 23.
