The South Carolina Highway Patrol is looking for a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that killed a Liberty man.
The body of Clifton D. Chapman, 32, of 217 Cecil Drive, Liberty was found in a ditch on Sharon Church Road this morning, according to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore.
“We believe he was struck around 8:30pm last night on the 500 block of Sharon Church Road,” Shore said.
Neighbors heard a thump around that time and saw a vehicle, which didn't stay in the area for very long, Shore said.
The neighbors came outside but didn't see anything after the suspicious noise, he said.
“This morning around 8am someone saw the body in a ditch and called it in,” Shore said.
Chapman died of head and neck trauma. Death would have occurred not long after he was struck, he said.
“The Highway Patrol is trying to find the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run,” Shore said. “Crimestoppers is offering a reward to anyone who calls in with information that leads to an arrest.”
