Central Man Killed in Head-on Collision

Preston Calvin Batson, 45, pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

A Central man did Saturday morning after his vehicle struck another one head on.

Preston Calvin Batson, 45, of 137 Windy Court, Central, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley said.

Trooper Billy Elder with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Batson was traveling southbound on Highway 93 near Quarry Road at 2:30am Saturday.

Batson’s 1965 Ford Mustang went left of center, striking a 1999 Ford SUV driven by Amanda Simpson, 30, of Liberty.

Simpson and her passenger, Joseph Simpson, 42, were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital following the collision.

Batson was not wearing a seat belt and died of blunt force trauma, Kelley said.

Elder said the Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
