Readers' Choice: Name Your Favorite Thrift or Consignment Store

We have relaunched our Readers' Choice contest with dozens of new categories, including thrift or consignment store.

Whether the economy is good, bad or somewhere in between, most of us can’t afford to buy new clothes for ourselves or our children all the time.

And often, we’re looking for ways to make a little money to help our families.
Thank goodness for thrift stores and consignment shops.

When you’re looking for “experienced” clothing for your family, or a place to sell some of your own clothes, what thrift store or consignment shop do you visit?

Nominate your favorite store in Easley, Mauldin and Taylors to be part of our “Best Thrift/ Consignment Store” contest as Patch unveils its Readers' Choice. The store must be in one of our Patches to be eligible.

Just log in and post your vote in the comments section below. You may nominate multiple places, but please post each nomination  in a separate comment so we can make sure they are all counted.

Nominations are due by July 9.

Voting for Readers’ Choice 2012 will begin in late July and winners will be announced in August.

THAT'S KARMA! Ladies Consignment Boutique. ONLY 3 months old. Fabulous store!!
Ronda Ellison June 18, 2012 at 05:45 pm
THAT'S KARMA! --Not your average consignment boutique for ladies. The owner is extremely selective in the pieces she accepts to consign. Clothing is choice and size selection doesn't stop at 8. Atmosphere lends itself to upscale and trendy. No funky smell, either. Even has a cool waiting room for the men in our lives. Must shop it! R. Ellison

MARYS CLOSET.
This place is bargin city! Very nice clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories for women and juniors. Most everything in the store is only $5. This is a ministry organization that supports Mary's House.
Lisa Smith July 23, 2012 at 04:26 pm
MARYS Closet is amazing! Only $5 per item and it all goes to help provide shelter and services to victims of domestic violence and their children. Plus, prayer support in the store for customers and friendly, courteous service!
Debra Bridges July 24, 2012 at 11:29 am
MARYS Closet has very nice clothes in a variety of sizes and styles. And has all the accesories to go with your new outfit - jewelry, purses, shoes, etc. Great buys and it supports a great ministry - MARYS (Ministry Alliance for Regaining Your Safety) House, the only faith-based domestic violence organization in the Upstate. MARYS House offers emergency, temporary shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence and offers many other services to women in the community.

MARYS Closet, part of MARYS House Ministries, is a wonderful ministry for the community! Women know they can come into the shop for fellowship, encouragement, and prayer for all things going on in their lives and also for their families. It is a place to receive spiritual refreshing. God is doing awesome and amazing things at the Closet! Women can also find beautiful clothing and accessories for $5 per item while there. All proceeds go to support MARYS House the faith-based domestic violence shelter that ministers to women and children who are victims of domestic violence. This is truly a wonderful ministry that is supported by a great community!! Thank you community for all your support!

Delight$ 4 a Dollar is a ministry and store combined in one! They opened their store to help people and that's exactly what they're doing! They deserve recognition.

We love to go to the Highway 25 Drive-In in Greenwood. They have two screens showing 2 - 3 moviesRead More per night each and you can get a great burger or sandwich from their concession stand, too. It's a very family-oriented venue with a playground in front of the screen to keep the kids entertained before the movie starts.
Sammy June 6, 2013 at 08:27 pm
Saw many movies at drive ins over the years. Cannot remember the first one or the last one, but, itRead More was always fun. One thing I loved about them was the fact you could bring your own concessions and save a lot of money. I also remember the playgrounds just about all of them had to keep the children entertained before the show started, during intermission and while waiting for the cars to get out. Only thing I did not enjoy going with my family, our dad always left before the end of the second feature, to beat the crowd. One movie I waited more than 30 years to see the end of it and had to stay up until 2 AM and be at work at 6 the next morning, lol. I miss those days. Thanks for letting me know the one on Highway 25 in Greenwood is open.
Sammy June 3, 2013 at 03:12 pm
It will NEVER work right the way it is designed. How are you going to get your mouth in there to getRead More the last bit of the burger? Too much of the food is actually in the holder and there is seemingly no way to get past the little prongs on the sides to get you mouth in there. Remember, it takes two hands to handle a Whopper!
Jason Evans (Editor) June 3, 2013 at 03:29 pm
I was wondering about the last bit of the burger too, Sammy. Also, if the thing is supposed to letRead More you multi-task while you munch, how can you see what you're doing with a burger and big plastic thing dangling in front of your face?

there is no excuse for adultery. If your married first you should remain celibate until marriage.Read More Second you should not need porn with your spouse. Its about LOVE and RESPECT
Darrell Wallace May 16, 2013 at 09:41 pm
When I find out that an actor/actress is gay, I no longer watch their programs. As a born againRead More Christian, I cannot (backed by the Bible in Romans chapter one) approve of that life style.
Carolyn Farr Smith (Editor) May 9, 2013 at 05:26 pm
The mom says the child pushed her to work harder at her studies. Doesn't that count for something?Read More We had students who used them in their senior "memory" pages, but not in their school photo. But regardless of her choices as a teen, being a mom is a huge representation of the person you become and that she became as a result of having the child. How is that less significant than a football?

The School is right. Shame should never be celebrated
Shell Bell May 10, 2013 at 05:58 pm
Why is it shameful or a mistake? She made a bad decision that gave her the most precious gift aRead More human could receive, and she stepped up and raised this baby, and graduated! I was the youngest sister of 3 girls and my sister took me as her "prop" she was never ask who I was or anything the pic was used in the yearbook. Its is not shameful to show others that one bad decision doesn't have to lead to more! To me this could have been used to help encouraged other teen mom's, cause lets face it teen motherhood. Is an issue these days.

37 years ago, our daughter caught chicken pox at her day care. When I called to let them know, I wasRead More told, "Yes, it is going around, we have had several cases." One of the spots on her face got infected and a couple of weeks later meningitis put her into the hospital on her second birthday. Was there a conecction? We do not know, but if there had been a vaccine for CP then, it might have saved us that horrible experience.
Jeff Green May 6, 2013 at 05:55 pm
I'm with you JackDaniel - this sounds like something designed to pad someone's pocket. If someoneRead More wants to learn CPR, they can find ways to do it. I took a CPR class many years ago where I worked, and I can guarantee you that if I had to do it now, whomever I was doing it on would be in trouble. The fact of the matter is that if you don't have a deep interest in retaining the skill, you're going to forget whatever it is you learned within a year or two, and unless you happen to beat the odds and find yourself in the whatever-hundred thousand to one situation where you would actually need to remember, it is going to be a complete waste of time. Bottom line - while it sounds like a noble goal, it's a big waste of time and a complete misuse of school time that should be spent on the three R's.
JackDaniel Davis May 6, 2013 at 06:32 pm
I just checked Sen Malloy's record and it appears that he is zero for 18 on getting bills passedRead More this session. He did get three resolutions passed so he is 3 for 22 overall. Maybe he needs to change his line of work. I am still looking for any connection to a company that sells medical/rescue equipment.
Sammy May 7, 2013 at 08:27 pm
Is the state going to give the classes free or are the parents going to be stuck paying the bill forRead More them Seems like a good idea on the surface, but, if CPR is not done right, it can kill the very person you are trying to save. Most people in an emergency situation, panic and do not do what they are supposed to do. Cool heads rarely prevail.
Ashley Adams May 9, 2013 at 06:01 pm
I don't think they should run background checks, but they should state up front that they don't andRead More advice their customers to do so. http://quickbackgroundsearch.com/
TruckerTwotimes May 10, 2013 at 01:29 am
I think they should since all of the mentioned are out to make a buck, i.e. the dating sites, theRead More possible scam-er slash criminal and the back ground check service, more scams are going on these days and not just on the internet
denise May 6, 2013 at 03:04 pm
I think if the high school students passed all the required courses for graduation then theyRead More shouldn't have to take the exit exam but if the ones that are failing should have to take it and give them one last chance to earn their diploma.
Julia April 26, 2013 at 03:50 pm
Sounds a little weird that you would hold your kid over the sink so that they can go to theRead More bathroom. That doesn't sound very sanitary. It would be better if children would learn to associate toilets rather than sinks as the place to go potty!
Mary Grady April 27, 2013 at 07:57 pm
This is nonsense. It is someone's idea of how to assuage a belief that the parent has to be more inRead More a child's life or have greater control of a child's life rather than teaching the child to control their own lives. Frankly, the notion of allowing my toddler to run around like that is nauseating and I'd be visiting less if a friend was going this.
Emily April 27, 2013 at 11:47 pm
