Locals Among Clemson Roaring 10 Honorees

Young Alumni Council recognizes young alumni for impact in a variety of fields. Easley and Central residents among honorees.

Clemson University’s Young Alumni Council has announced the inaugural class of the Roaring 10, which recognizes 10 young alumni for their impact in business, leadership, community, educational and philanthropic endeavors.

Honorees also were selected based on their acts of upholding the university’s core values of honesty, integrity and respect and demonstrating an “ever-loyal” relationship with Clemson University and the characteristics of Determined Spirit. This year’s honorees are:

Joseph Fletcher Anderson of Central, Class of 2004: Anderson is the owner of the Nationwide Insurance Agency in Central. He spends his free time volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America and gives back to Clemson by serving on the Student Affairs Advisory Board and as an IPTAY representative and vice president of the Fort Hill Clemson Club.

Robert Wesley Bagley of Blackstock, Class of 2002, master’s in 2004: Bagley gives his time to several boards of directors, including the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences Alumni Board; the Pendleton Farmer’s Society; and the South Carolina Farm Bureau. He is customer support manager for John Deere Ag and Turf in Nashville, Ga.

Thomas Joshua Bell of Florence, Class of 2008: Upon graduation, Bell joined the corps of Teach for America, where he taught middle school students in underprivileged areas. Since then he has served as its recruitment director and is expanding the organization to Florence as the executive director.

Aaron Blake Bowman of Easley, Class of 2003, master’s in 2008: Bowman is an architect with LS3P Architects in Greenville. He has devoted much time to local community-service projects, including the Clemson Experimental Forest, “AM12: Altered Perception Installation” and “Your Town: Pendleton.” He is working toward a Master of Science in architecture at Clemson.

Jeffrey Robert DiMaio of  Pendleton, Class of 2001, Ph.D. in 2004: DiMaio is co-owner Tetramer Technologies LLC, which started as a faculty startup company at Clemson in 2001. DiMaio also uses his expertise in ceramic engineering to mentor 29 students and teach courses at Clemson.

Richard Lartigue Garick of Hoover, Ala., Class of 2003: Upon graduation, Garick immediately got involved in the Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Council, recently serving as president. He now serves as a member of the Alumni Association’s larger Board of Directors.  He is an outside sales associate for James M. Pleasants Company Inc. in Birmingham, Ala.

Katy Lauren Gregg of Statesboro, Ga., Class of 2005: Gregg is an assistant professor of child and family development at Georgia Southern University. Her proficiency in the area of psychology has led her to speak at several national and international conferences. She gives her time to the Clemson Alumni Council, College of Business and Behavioral Sciences Alumni Board and the local Savannah Clemson Club.

Angelo C. Mitsopoulos of Fort Mill, Class of 2003: Mitsopoulos was involved with several student activities in his undergraduate time at Clemson, and he continued his involvement upon graduation. Most recently, he was a member of the student affairs campaign committee as part of The Will to Lead capital campaign. He works with local charities in Charlotte, N.C., including United Way and Holy Angels. Mitsopoulos is the director of global securities operations for Bank of America.

Michael B. Shuler of Charleston, Class of 2003: Shuler is involved with the Charleston Clemson Club and rejuvenated the Young Alumni efforts in the area. After gaining experience in local business, he founded the King Street Companies, which manages an independent insurance brokerage and several commercial real estate ventures.

Capt. Gilbert Samuel Wyche, Lakenheath, England, Class of 2006: Wyche serves in the United States Air Force. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, among other decorations, and has been deployed three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He is a security forces officer at RAF Lakenheath in England.

The Young Alumni Council works to engage young alumni of Clemson University by implementing programs and activities, to provide leadership and give counsel to the staff of the Alumni Association on matters of concern to young alumni and to provide guidance from a young alumni perspective to the Alumni Council. The Alumni Association is an open-member, nonprofit organization that exists to connect alumni with their fellow Tigers and alma mater.
