Easley Patch Weekly Roundup: Oct. 16-22

In case you missed something, here's what happened last week in Easley:

Monday

Officials say it's too early to tell exactly what happened on Friday morning when sheriff's deputies discovered four dead family members at their homes in Liberty.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and each year Karen's on Calhoun hosts the Pink Hair for Hope fundraiser.

Tuesday

Gov. Nikki Haley held a town hall meeting at Spartanburg Community College on Monday, using the opportunity to outline goals for the state and also field a few questions from the audience.

Four South Carolina county election commissions have filed a lawsuit with the South Carolina Supreme Court questioning the legality of the first-in-the-South presidential primary.

Easley residents have contributed $5,055 to various presidential election campaigns since the start of the year, according to figures released by the Federal Elections Commission.

Producers of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" are looking for a South Carolina family in need of a major home renovation.

Wednesday

The agencies supported by the United Way of Pickens County are about to become even more united as the organization expands its use of technology and social media.

At least a small part of the push to get South Carolina on the front of the primary calendar every four years is to take advantage of the candidate spending that typically floods the state. So far in the 2012 election season, that spending has been more of a trickle.

Businessman Herman Cain, who is surging to the top of the polls for the GOP nomination, and his 9-9-9 tax reform plan are both growing in national recognition and criticism.

Thursday 

The Green Wave boys and girls Cross Country teams rose to the occasion on Wednesday and despite difficult conditions, both teams finished second place at the regional meet at the Anderson Civic Center.

Some carried signs, others photographs, but all brought fond memories of four family members who were killed in a mysterious shooting at two Liberty homes on Friday.

County councils across the state are taking action against a new wave of drugs that are being blamed for the death of an Anderson Univeristy basketball player, as well as an incident in Spartanburg County that saw a woman try to steal a police car. 

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control hopes to have an emergency ban on bath salts and synthetic marijuana in place by Friday.

Friday
