November 24 is Small Business Saturday

Starving Artist Cafe wants to encourage people to shop downtown on Nov. 24

Shoppers are probably beginning to plan their strategy for Black Friday shopping, finding out just how early the large retailers will be opening up the day after Thanksgiving.

But another event that same weekend aims to celebrate and support the smaller businesses that are the economic backbone of the nation.

Small Business Saturday will be held Saturday, November 24.

Last year, the Starving Artist Cafe gave a 10 percent discount off their meal to anyone who brought in a receipt from a business located in Downtown Easley.

Vicki Ciplickas, owner of The Starving Artist Cafe, says they'll be offering that same promotion this year as well.

“I think it's really important that the downtown businesses have a good holiday season,” she said. “This is really where our economy starts and ends, is on Main Street. These are all mom-and-pop stores, people who aren't big CEOs, but we are the ones who put everything back into the community, too. We pay all the taxes, all the municipal taxes and everything else. This is where the economy really thrives, if your Main Street is thriving too.”

Ciplickas said she hopes a lot of people turnout to support this year's Small Business Saturday.

“And it's more fun to come downtown, rather the fight the crowds at the malls,” she said. “There's places to park, there's places to eat. It's a nice walk and you find some really unique things down here.”
