PC Cancer Association Yard Sale is July 21

Pickens County Cancer Association now collecting items for July fundraiser

The Pickens County Cancer Association is planning a Yard Sale next month, and they're collecting items for it now.

The Yard Sale is slated for Saturday, July 21 from 8am – 1 pm at the PCCA office, located at 444 Hampton Avenue in Pickens.

“We're right beside the Dollar General off Highway 8 in Pickens,” said Cynthia Smoak, Pickens County Cancer Association Executive Director.

Items can be dropped off at the PCCA office or you can call the PCCA at 878-0611 to arrange a time for someone to pick up your items.

“We're looking for electronics, furniture, kitchen items, décor items, children's toys, crafts,” Smoak said.

The organization hopes to raise at least $500 through the yard sale, she said.

“That would allow us to purchase another shipment of Ensure, the nutritional supplement that cancer patients use,” Smoak said.

The Pickens County Cancer Association receives no financial support from the American Cancer Society and relies on fundraisers, donations and grants to continue to help cancer patients.

“We provide mileage reimbursements for treatments, prescriptions assistance, co-pay assistance, support groups, wigs and medical supplies,” Smoak said.

The group plans to hold another BBQ cookoff fundraiser.

The inaugural fundraiser, held in April in Old Market Square, raised $7,000 for the PCCA, Smoak said.

“Every cooker we have this year has agreed to come back next year,” she said.

She said both the SC BBQ Association and city officials were pleased with the first event.

“We're definitely going to do it again next year,” Smoak said. “It'll be bigger next year and we're excited about it.”

The Association is also seeking sponsors for its Golf Tournament, slated for Friday, September 21 at the Pickens Country Club.

The Captains Choice tournament starts at 1pm.

Registration is $75 per player or $300 for a team of four.
