Old Pendleton District Genealogical Society to Meet Sept. 17

Kevin Adams will speak on Dr. Basil Manly, Sr., a well known Baptist preacher, educator and Confederate

Kevin Adams will be the guest speaker at the September 17 meeting of the Old Pendleton District Genealogical Society which will be start at 7 p.m. at the Central-Clemson Library on Highway 93.

His topic will be Dr. Basil Manly, Sr., a well known Baptist preacher, educator and Confederate. Basil became the second president of the University of Alabama and was a driving force in the formation of the Southern Baptist Convention. He and his two sons were instrumental in the founding of Furman University, the Southern Baptist Seminary at Greenville and the Seminary at Louisville.   

Adams, a Seneca resident, is a member of the Old Pendleton District Genealogical Society, Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Seneca Baptist Church Historical Committee. He is the author of a book about the Adams of Chauga River, and has details on several other Oconee County families connected to the Adams family. He has also written articles for the Oconee and Anderson County Heritage Books.
