Weather Halts Baseball, Softball Games

Both teams will resume play on Friday.

Easley High School baseball and softball teams had their opening games in the 4A district playoffs Thursday night interrupted by weather.

The baseball game at Byrnes was halted by lightning and then a downpour that included hail with the Rebels leading, 2-1, with two outs in the bottom of the first inning.

Action will pick up there at 6 p.m. Friday.

Easley’s softball team will resume its game at Boiling Springs at 5:30 p.m. Friday, trailing 8-0 after four innings.

Back-to-back doubles by Wil Hartsell and Jordan Pankake gave Easley an early lead against No. 1 seed Byrnes.

In the bottom of the first, the Rebels went on top against Green Wave starting pitcher Stephen McKnight on a two-out, two-run double by Zach Bridgeman.

The winner of the Byrnes-Easley game will play the winner of Lancaster vs. Spring Valley, with the losers facing elimination.

Both of those games will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday.

In softball, Easley would face elimination Saturday against either Dutch Fork or Rock Hill, unless the Green Wave can rally to beat Boiling Springs.
