SC Insurance Companies Give To Honor Flight
Companies' joint sponsorship will allow around 100 World War II Veterans to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
PGBA, LLC, and InStil Health Insurance Co. announced today a joint sponsorship of an Honor Flight that will take World War II veterans to their World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The donation to Honor Flight South Carolina will allow about 100 World War II veterans who have never visited the memorial to fly from Columbia to the nation's capital on Nov. 7, 2012, four days before Veterans Day. About 60 guardians - volunteer assistants - will accompany the veterans and provide help throughout the daylong trip.
Veterans who are relatives or close acquaintances of PGBA or InStil Health Insurance employees will be given priority for available spots on the charter flight. Remaining seats will go to veterans who apply through Honor Flight South Carolina (www.HonorFlightSC.com).
Both PGBA (www.PGBA.com) and InStil Health Insurance (www.MyInStil.com) serve military families in their work with TRICARE, the U.S. military's health care program for active-duty and retired service members and their families. PGBA handles about 60 percent of the nation's TRICARE medical claims processing and related customer service. InStil Health Insurance provides managed care support services to TRICARE beneficiaries in South Carolina.
"Our employees are honored to serve members of the military and their families every day through TRICARE, and they are especially proud to sponsor the Veterans Day Honor Flight," said Bruce Hughes, president of BlueCross' Government Programs division, which includes PGBA and InStil Health Insurance. "Without Honor Flight, many heroes who served our country in World War II would never have the opportunity to see their own memorial."
Honor Flight South Carolina is a member of the national Honor Flight Network. Its mission is to provide every World War II veteran in South Carolina who has never visited the memorial an opportunity to do so. The Nov. 7 flight will be the South Carolina chapter's 15th to the memorial.
"Every single World War II veteran should see the memorial, and we are so grateful to PGBA and InStil Health Insurance for helping Honor Flight South Carolina come closer to that goal," said Bill Dukes, founder and president of the state's Honor Flight chapter. "Only about 1.7 million of the 16 million World War II veterans are still with us, and about 800 of these heroes pass away every day."
In addition to visiting the World War II Memorial, Honor Flight veterans also tour Arlington National Cemetery during their visit to Washington.
