As a part of the 2012 Artist in Residence program, The Reserve at Lake Keowee Community Foundation is pleased to host Russell Jewell this summer. Jewell, a watercolor artist, will join The Reserve from July 6-13.
Dr. Russell Jewell is an artist/educator from Easley, S.C., and has spent more than 27 years combining art and education. He received his Masters of Art from the University of South Carolina and his Doctorate of Education in Art from the University of Georgia. In addition to his certification by the National Board for Professional Teachers, Jewell is also a signature member of the S.C. Watermedia Society, the National Watercolor Society, and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. His work is inspired by travels shared with family, students, and fellow colleagues. Jewell has received numerous honors, including recognition for five consecutive years (2005 to 2009) at the Plein Air Competition Easton, M.D., and winning the Georgia Watercolor Society Award in 2010.
Jewell’s work will be on display July 2-26 and a reception in his honor will be hosted July 12th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. – both at the Hill House Gallery, located at 534 Pine Grove Church Rd., Sunset, S.C.

During the weeklong residency program, each artist will stay on-site with a host Reserve member while exhibiting artwork and offering education workshops. They will also create works inspired by the natural beauty of The Reserve, for inclusion in The Reserve Community Foundation’s permanent collection.
The Reserve at Lake Keowee Community Foundation is a non-profit organization created to enhance the quality of life at The Reserve and in the local area while fulfilling a sense of community and philanthropy for The Reserve’s members. The Foundation sponsors regular cultural events including concerts, plays, lectures, and an annual art festival. The Foundation has four major functions: 1.) Help preserve the natural resources in the area through acts and events of environmental stewardship; 2.) Provide educational programs for members and guests of The Reserve; 3.) Promote an arts program at The Reserve; and 4.) Provide outreach activities for neighboring communities in Pickens County, SC. In 2011, the Foundation gave more than $20,000 to local charities.
