Man Sentenced For Assault On Girlfriend
John Trevino Jr. tried to strangle and beat his girlfriend last year.
A Clinton man was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday after he pled guilty in Greenville County to assaulting his girlfriend in March of 2011.
Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said Wednesday that John Trevino Jr. was convicted of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and was subsequently sentenced to 12 years after admitting to strangling and striking his girlfriend while riding back to his hometown of Clinton.
On March 3, 2011, Trevino was the passenger in a car driven by his girlfriend when, while intoxicated, he flew into a rage and struck the victim just after she had left Greenville en route to Clinton with her two daughters.
According to the solicitor's office, Trevino began to strangle the woman and punch her in right side of the face, resulting in contusions, lacerations and swelling. The victim reportedly was able to get help by pulling into a restaurant parking lot on Woodruff Road getting help at the business.
Trevino was later found by Greenville County Sheriff's Office deputies in Fountain Inn.
