Just BROWSing Now Open For Business
Boutique and waxing bar located downtown in Doodle Station, next to Michael's Pizzeria.
Four years ago Julie Cohn had an idea for a business. But with so much going on in her and her family's lives, she dismissed the idea.
But it wouldn't go away.
“It kept keeping me up at night,” Cohn said.
On Tuesday, her idea officially became a reality as her business, Just BROWSing opened its doors.
Just BROWSing is located at 101-L Northeast Main Street, next to Michael's Pizzeria.
“We're a little boutique,” Cohn said. “We sell cute stuff, most of it handmade by local vendors. I would say probably 95 percent of our items are homemade.”
Some of the boutique's items are made by members of a mom's group Julie joined.
“I just thought about who I already knew that made things that I thought would sell really well,” Cohn said. “I put an ad on Craigslist looking for other people and got a huge response from that. That told me I was on the right track.
“I like to support local businesses,” she said. “I think having a businesses that supports twenty-some local businesses is an awesome idea. I think people are more receptive to local businesses. If they know that something was handmade from somebody in their area, it'll be more appealing. You can't really go in and get this quality in a big store.”
Why is the business spelled Just BROWSing? Because it's a waxing bar as well, Cohn said.
“We do facial waxing and toe waxing,” she said. “We have hair care products, nail products, lots of jewelry, hair bows, hats, scarves.”
Cohn's background is in cosmetology. She had a salon in New York.
“There is nothing like this around here in Easley,” Cohn said, of her new business. “To me, that's a good sign.”
Just BROWSing is open 10am – 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-4 on Wednesdays and Fridays, and open by chance on Saturdays.
The atmosphere in downtown has always appealed to Cohn, that's why she decided to open her business there.
“Just the vibe that you get from seeing people walking by,” she said. “I think Doodle Station is a cute little building. And my son loves the train. He's two, and he just loves watching the trains go by.”
