DNR Continues To Add Fishing Clinics Around The State

Table Rock State Park to host fishing clinic Saturday, June 30

The temperatures are beginning to heat up and that means summer is right around the corner. This season is shaping up to be a busy one for family outdoor events around South Carolina. Everything from fishing clinics to free fishing days are available.

Family Fishing Clinics is an introductory class to fishing and it's a chance to learn everything from tying a proper knot to casting techniques.

The clinics are sponsored by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Aquatic Education Section and are designed to introduce the basics of fishing to the young and old or those who need a refresher to the basics of fishing to increase their future participation in the sport. Family Fishing Clinics will teach skills on how to tie fishing knots, how to rig a rod and reel, casting and the best part is everyone will get to try their hand at fishing. Participants will learn how and where to fish and have someone to fish with to become confident anglers. Family Fishing Clinics are free of charge.

Register online and for more information regarding an upcoming Family Fishing Clinic event or to host an event, please contact Lorianne Riggin, rigginl@dnr.sc.gov or (803) 737-8483.

The scheduled clinics are as follows:

  • June 23 - 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Barnwell State Park

  • June 30 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Table Rock State Park

  • June 30 - 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Lake Johnson (Spartanburg Co.)

  • July 14 - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Table Rock State Park

  • August 11 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Table Rock State Park

  • October 13 - 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. - Pleasant Ridge County Park (Greenville Co.)

South Carolina's free fishing days will be held this year from June 9 & 10. Free fishing days allows South Carolina residents who would like to try the sport of fishing to go without having to purchase a license and it's a great way for the entire family to get outdoors for very little cost.
