The Greenville Police Department and Greenville County Sheriff's Office are raising money for the South Carolina Special Olympics by holding their annual "Cops Sitting On A Doughnut Shop," event.
The Special Olympics provides sports training and athletic competition for more than 17,500 children and aduits with intellectual disabilities in South Carolina.
"Each athlete has remarkable gifts and abilities, and each one deserves a
chance to show the world what he or she can do," a release from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office reads.
At 6 a.m. Friday, Major Shea Smith of the GCSO, Major Mike Gambrell of the Greenville PD along with other state and federal law enforcement officers will spend 39 hours straight on top of the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Shop located at 302 North Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville. The goal is to raise $20,000 for Special Olympics. The public is invited to come by and meet the officers, Special Olympic athletes and make a donation online.
